Mentio eius Actor. c. 7. v. 43. Imo baiulâstis tabenaculum Molochi, et sidus Dei vestri Remphais, quas figuras fecistis, ut eas adoraretis. Ρ῾αιφὰν vocatur LXX. Interpr. Amosi, c. 5. v. 26. ubi eadem verba reperiuntur,m Καὶ ἀνελάβετε τὴν ςκηνὴν τοῦ Μολὸχ, καὶ τὸ ἄςτρον τοῦ θεοῦ ὑμῶν Ρ῾αιφὰν, οὓς τύπους ἐποιήςατε ἑαυτοῖς. Quô nomine Herculem indigitatum fuisse Godwynus sentit: Quemadmodum enim is Chiun, ex Aegyptio Chon, ita enim apud hanc gentem appellatus reperitur; Sic Remphan, vel Rephan, idem dictus est, ab Hebraeo, Rephaim, quae vox Gigantes in sacris Literis notat. Herculem autem non inepte Solem interpretantur Eruditi, qui sub vario schemate ab idololatris Israelitis cultus est. Namque idem et Moloch et Baal et Chiun, et Remphan et Tamuz fuit, aliis atque aliis ritibus, pro virtutum eius diversitate, a gente illa, in Idololatriam maxime proclivi, consecratus. Nec desunt, qui herculis nomen ex Hebr. Hier col, i. e. illuminavit omnia, deducant: uti apud Graecos nihil aliud est quam Η῞ρας κλέος, i. e. aeris gloria: quae porro alia est aeris gloria. nisi Solis illuminatio? verba sunt Macrobii, Saturnal. l. 1. c. 20. Quid autem per sidus Remphanis intelligendum? Respondet Oecumenius, ad Actor. loc. cit. probabile esse indigitari stellam, in fronte Molochi idoli depictam vel sculptam: Nihil enim apud Idololatras insolens, Idola symboliis istiusmodi additamentis insignire: Quemadmodum Suetonius de Iulio Caesare, in Deorum numerum relato, ait c. 88.
